I was stationed at the II Field Forces HQ Compound (the Plantation Compound)from December 1967 to December 1968, where I was assigned to the 61st Medical Detachment, providing basic medical treatment to the approximately 4,000 troops routinely assigned in the various companies therein. The 11th ACR was instrumental in defending our compound during the TET Offensive (Jan.,1968), when we found ourselves under attack from "Widows Village", which was situated directly across the highway from our location. Were it not for the 11th ACR and a couple of assault helicopter companies nearby, I doubt that I would be writing this tonight. Thanks to all the members of the 11th Armored Cav for being there when it counted!

Yes Andy, it was I, plus it was Stanley F. Cherrie BG RET that started calling me the Crusty Old Cavalry Soldier plus kept calling me such when he was my BDE Commander in 2AD FWD.

Worked in S1, HHT, above K Troop, 1981-84; those were some hard working years with LTC Stanley F. Cherrie at the helm & Frederick Franks at Regiment. Hedgecock and Cowles, I think I remember you guys; I remember the Boeslager team, I think you won the whole Europe competition in 1981 didn't ya? I did 13 yrs in the Army with the 82d, 3rd ID, and you Boeslager/Cav Cup guys trained harder than I've seen anyone do. I think I remember you guys running 10 miles in the AM, practicing all events all day & lifting weights, then ending the day with another 5-10 mile run. The team was the only intramural-type thing LTC Cherrie kept open when he took command. Hedgecock, I might be mistaken, but I think I sold you one of my old BMW's. Workhorse!!!
