Dear Mom & Dad,

Greetings once again from Vietnam.  I'm afraid that I have been neglecting my letter writing lately but now that I am in from the field I will be able to write more often.  I have been in from the field for about five days now and there is a pretty good chance that I might not be going back out.

For the last seven days,  the regiment has loaned us an E-7 to act as our Mess Sargent.  He is actually the Regimental Food Service Advisor however, he has gone back to base camp today and we have found out that Headquarters Troop Mess Sargent will be our new Mess Sargent.  He's an E-7 and might be just what we need.  Barney is coming back but he is going to Headquarters Troop as their First Cook.  Right now however, I'm the highest ranking man in the mess so I'm taking over as Mess Sargent.

We are still at Long Binh and are suppose to be here until December 7 and then we go to base camp for the I.G. Inspection.  The troop is operating around Lai Khi.   Contact with the enemy has been heavy.  This war has really changed since the bombing halt.

I don't know if I told you or not Dad but I have been writing to two girls at home.   One girl in Kittery Point and another in Hampton.  I am more interested in the one in Kittery than the other.  What I would like you to do Dad is to deliver some flowers to her.  Whatever you and Les think would be nice - perhaps some roses or something.  Her name is (editor's note: name and address redacted for privacy.)

Please don't tell her you are my father.  She is 20 years old and lives with her brother.  She is married but separated with two kids.  Nothing serious, understand.  I just thought that she might like some flowers.  She was kind enough to write to me and I would like to thank her.  I would like the following message on the card.  (editor's note: Sorry, too personal - redacted).

I realize that this may be a little too strong but from the letters that I have been writing to her I want her to be sure that she knows who the flowers are from.  Write and let me know how you made out.  Tell me, is she pretty?  She seems to be a real nice girl in her letters.  Perhaps I will look her up when I get home.

I have given up writing to the girl in Bangkok and I don't think that I will be going back to Bangkok after all.  I would like to have another R&R but I am not particular about where.  I will take any place.

I am also writing a nurse who is 23, single and lives in North Hampton.  I have received one letter from her and I am expecting another soon.  I enjoy getting mail and I know that the only way of getting mail is to write.  So, my mail situation is improving.

There are a few items that I would like to have as soon as possible.  They are; blank cassette tapes, bath towels, airmail stamps, film, batteries and one more flash attachment - preferably, electronic.

Well, that's about it from here.  Things are going well for me.  I'm getting shorter every day.  It won't be long now and I'll be home.  I will sign off now!

By for now!

Love,
Bob
